Impact

Seattle Music Partners provides free instruction (and instruments) to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument and express themselves through the language of music.

Our work was recently cited by one of the principals at our partner schools: “It has been just fabulous to have Seattle Music Partners involved with our students,” said Thurgood Marshall Elementary principal Winifred Todd. SaxophonistTo be able to give our fourth- and fifth-graders access to individual lessons to understand the music and the skills involved, is just an amazing opportunity.” Click here for full story.

Our work has also been cited by the principal of Leschi Elementary School as an important factor in the improvement of the students’ state standardized (WASL) test scores. Click here for full story.

More elementary graduates continue with music. This past year, the number of rising 6th graders from our program auditioning for places in the middle school orchestra and band programs significantly increased. Close to 80% of our rising 6th graders will continue with music in middle school!

The effectiveness of our program is easy to see in the enthusiasm of our students and volunteers who return week after week and year after year. We regularly hear from parents that our program truly makes a difference in their children’s lives. The children can’t wait to see their tutors and vice versa. Our mini-recitals are over-booked, with students eager to show families and friends the pieces they have been working on and the progress they have made.
