Impact

Seattle Music Partners provides free instruction (and instruments) to children who might not otherwise have the opportunity to learn how to play an instrument and express themselves through the language of music.

Our work was recently heralded by the principal at one of our partner schools: "Thanks to SMP and to all the volunteers who brighten the lives of our students by giving them a chance to express themselves through music, to shine, to belong.  Your presence at our school truly makes a difference!" (Leschi Elementary School Principal)

The positive impact of our program is also evident to school staff: "Seattle Music Partners and their volunteers are the best. SaxophonistTheir program has improved our students' self-esteem, confidence, exposure to culture and academic performance” (Bailey Gatzert Elementary School Counselor) and to parents as well: "It has been a blessing to have your guidance for our daughter over the past two and a half years.  Thank you very much!" (Parent of a 5th graduate)

More elementary graduates continue with music. Following our 5th grade field trips to visit music classes at Washington Middle School, our Middle School Music Meeting for parents and guardians, and one-on-one work with their tutors, 88% of SMP’s Washington-bound students auditioned for spots in the orchestra and band program. Not only did a record number of SMP participants audition, 76% placed at the intermediate (or higher) level, setting a new standard of accomplishment!

The effectiveness of our program is easy to see in the enthusiasm of our students and volunteers who return week after week and year after year. We regularly hear from parents that our program truly makes a difference in their children’s lives. The children can’t wait to see their tutors and vice versa. Our mini-recitals are over-booked, with students eager to show families and friends the pieces they have been working on and the progress they have made.
