My journey with SMP began when I was in the third grade, learning to play the flute for the very first time at Leschi Elementary. I continued with the flute until my senior year of high school; within that time I’ve had the privilege of going back to Leschi as a tutor, creating a full circle. That time allowed me to become the drum major at Garfield High School for my junior and senior year. Over these core years of my development into being an artist I performed in several Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute Teen Summer Musicals (two of which my role featured the flute). Those years challenged my leadership skills greatly, as I became older I acted as a mentor to the younger cast members, teaching then that it was okay to be outspoken, to take risks, and to be different.
