Development Manager - RVC Fellow

Position Description

Be part of an inspiring after-school music program for youth in low-income schools. Seattle Music Partners seeks a Development Manager with experience in fundraising, grant-writing, special events, sponsorship solicitation, and the ability to develop and nurture relationships with major donors, partners, and corporate sponsors. The position requires strong organizational, networking skills, and the ability to work on various events simultaneously with a keen eye for detail. This position will analyze donor data and give. trends to create strategies to ensure new donor acquisition, increased giving, donor retention, and recovery of lapsed donors. 

Essential Responsibilities

Fundraising (60%)

  • Collaborate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors to create an annual development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization (includes planning for SMP’s annual appeal at the end of the year)
  • With oversight from the ED, implement fundraising plans pertaining to assigned special events, grants and sponsorships 
  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are carried out in a timely manner 
  • Research, write, submit and present grant applications in collaboration with the Executive Director
  • Assist in expanding the SMP’s donor community by cultivating relationships with the donor, foundation contacts, and sponsor prospects
  • Track grant funds, grant calendar and coordinate grant requirements with alignment with grant reporting timeline by developing a schedule to manage SMP’s major sources of income
  • Maintain and track donor relationships on SMP’s donor database (LGL/Little Green Light)
  • Process donations and donor recognition and thank you letters
  • Assist in donor identification, cultivation, solicitation, and management
  • Prepare written materials including reports, general correspondence, and other necessary solicitation materials

Communications (25%)

  • Participate in SMP’s electronic communications by creating and maintaining a quarterly e-newsletter, ensure SMP has a consistent voice and presence on all social media platforms, and create collateral (print or virtual) as needed for respective fundraising or brand efforts
  • Work with a website consultant/volunteer to update the organization’s website regularly and troubleshoot as necessary

Other Duties (10%)

  • Collaborate with staff in making key strategic decisions affecting SMP’s future
  • Engage in deep professional development through the Community Impact Fellowship Program and external trainings/workshops/conferences 
  • Represent and attend community events and activities to ensure the engagement of SMP with larger music, arts, and communities served.
  • Administrative duties as assigned​​

After-School Programming Direct Service/Internal Partnerships (5%)

Due to the impact of Covid-19, some of our after school programming will be virtual until schools reopen.
  • Participate in the recruitment and support of volunteers, partners
  • After-school support is subject to change based on COVID-19 restriction during the school year, the time commitment will increase to 15% if COVID restrictions are lifted

Qualifications

  • Ability to work remotely due to COVID-19 restrictions
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience in fundraising, development, capacity building or closely related field
  • Deep level of music appreciation
  • Culturally and linguistically reflect the community in which they will be working
  • Demonstrate a passion for community work and social justice and intent to stay and advance in the nonprofit field 
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both oral and written
  • Ability to adapt and exercise resourcefulness
  • Excellent computer skills including word processing, database management, and spreadsheets
  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S
  • A criminal history will not automatically disqualify an applicant from being selected as a Fellow. However, some CBO positions may not be open to applicants with certain kinds of criminal records. Applicants should expect to consent to a criminal background report as part of the interview and selection process
