Practice Tools
Two of the practice tools that will be most helpful to you in your musical careers are metronomes and tuners. Below, you can find some free online versions that you can use while you practice your instrument!
Here is an online metronome tool to help you keep a consistent rhythm.
Here is a free Chromatic Tuner at tuner.ninja! This is the easiest way to see if your instrument is in tune and whether you're holding a consistent and supported note. All strings, trombones, and flutes will see the correct note name displayed but trumpets, clarinets, and saxes will see the "concert pitch" displayed. Don't worry about that - just try to center the green arrow above the note name. This is a GREAT tool and will help you forever!
Pro-tip: there are a lot of metronome & tuner apps available as well -- feel free to search your app store for more options.
Trumpet and trombone players: Now that we're all practicing at home, you and your family (and the family pet!) might enjoy investing in a "practice mute" for your instrument. There's a wide variety of practice mutes on the market and they range from $7.00 to nearly $200 (for electronic versions). If you search "trumpet practice mute" or "trombone practice mute" online and you find something you're interested in, feel free to email Mr. Brannman for advice before purchasing.
