Be a Tutor

In the 2010/2011 school year, more than 100 high school, college and community musicians from the greater Seattle area volunteered to be music tutors.

Help empower young people through music and join the team for the school year!

As a volunteer, you will work with an elementary or middle school student at one of four Central District schools (after school) once a week. In addition to teaching students to read music and play an instrument, volunteers serve as role models and mentors. No prior teaching experience is necessary.

Tutoring with SMP is an opportunity to join a team of other musicians eager to serve our community, earn service learning hours, gain teaching experience, receive teacher training and improve your musicianship!

Beginning with the 2011/2012 school year, we will expand our program to include a second, teacher-led session for students each week at select schools with opportunities for more experienced volunteers to take on a leadership role.
