Space is Limited:
  • Participation in our program is based on a number of factors. Please answer the questions so we can better understand the interests and circumstances of all our applicants.
  • Space is limited by number of volunteers available, instruments available, and the overall number of students our staff can supervise safely online
  • Our goal is to provide private and ensemble music lessons to students who do not have access to quality music instruction outside of school. Seattle Music Partners is proud to be able to provide this free and low cost after-school music education program to students who might not otherwise be able to afford music lessons. If your family has the economic means to fund music lessons outside of SMP,  we ask that you consider donating to SMP so that we may ensure that students with financial need are given priority. Families with economic means may participate in the program on a space available basis.
  • Because we rely on volunteers to provide private lessons, we may need to place some students on a waitlist until we find more volunteer tutors. Please keep in mind that we may not have enough tutors to teach everyone their first choice instrument.  To increase the likelihood that your student will be placed with a tutor, please be sure to list a second choice instrument.
Attendance Requirement: In order for students to get the very most out of our program, our participants are required to come to both days of the program every week. The program runs on days that school is in session between October and May. Attendance will be taken daily, and for the safety of your student we will notify the family immediately if your student is absent from our program and we have not been notified in advance, absences will be marked unexcused if we do not receive notice in advanced or do not receive a note from a parent/guardian. Too many unexcused absences is grounds for dismissal from the program. Please ensure that your student is aware of this responsibility and is willing to attend all sessions.

We understand that COVID-19 and remote learning have many implications on student and family schedules and our staff aim to remain flexible throughout this unpredictable time with student attendance. To also help respect our volunteer's time, please contact an SMP staff member or log an attendance notice as soon you know that your student may not be able to attend a session.

Is your student not at home during the after school period? That's okay! Let us know in the notes section and we will do our best to try and coordinate with your student's child care center to see if they will be able to participate and play their instrument safely!
